Waiting

One of the traditional themes of Advent is waiting. The final verse of Psalm 27 is “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”. You might be more familiar with these words from the beautiful Taizé chant “Wait for the Lord”. When Christians speak of the Advent theme of waiting, I would guess that they normally have this sense of the word in mind. First and foremost, waiting for Jesus at the end of time, and secondly, waiting for the birth of Jesus at Christmas.
This Advent, we will be exploring this idea of waiting more deeply at St Peter’s. We will pick up some more personal types of waiting: what are we individually waiting for, longing for, dreading or anticipating joyfully? Where is God in this? What can we learn from the waiting stories in the Bible? Each Sunday at the 10.00 service during Advent we will explore different aspects of waiting. Do join us on this journey each Sunday, either in person or online. It will be worth the wait.
Lord, help us to know what our purpose in life is.
Give us patience with ourselves as we await this realisation.
Give us patience with others as they linger in uncertainty,
And when they take what we think is a wrong turn.
Make us strong and let our hearts take courage.
As we wait for you, Lord.
Amen
