Working Party

This title can sound like a contradiction in terms. However, whilst work and party might not seem to go together our team of helpers on Saturday proved otherwise.

My thanks to all those who gave up time to help with a wide range of jobs in and around church, and whose efforts make a real difference to the welcoming aspect of our church.

I’ve often been told that the summer holidays are a good time to tackle some of those jobs that get pushed down the priority list during the rest of the year. And whilst I agree I’m also aware that many use the prolonged break to take time off, away from work, and enjoy leisure and social time. Albeit mixed with a bit of work.

Think of the groups you belong to and the tasks or activities you tackle together. My experience is that on many occasions working alongside others is so much more enjoyable. A chance to chat as well as share the load. Perhaps our days of summer tasks can incorporate not just a sense of satisfaction in completing them, but some fun too.

thank you for the gift of our hands, our minds, and our time.

We praise you for the purpose found in work

and the deep renewal given in quiet rest.

Inspire us to serve others in the tasks of life,

and to honour you in you in times of leisure. Amen.
