Together We Stand

Tuesday this week (27 Jan) is Holocaust Memorial Day.
Each year communities around the globe pause to recall the horrific events during the Second World War that led to the murder of millions of Jews, alongside other victims of the Nazi regime. The date marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945.
This day is also used to call to mind other genocides since 1945.
Whilst it is horrific to remember incomprehensible acts of cruelty from one person to another, remembering is important because it calls us to act differently and work for a future marked by justice, peace, and kindness.
The reality in our world today feels like we have a long way to reach that mark.
Nevertheless, we are encouraged by knowing we are not alone in the struggles for a world free from hatred. The solidarity of millions throughout the world means we stand together. Likewise, we know that God who made and loves his whole creation walks alongside on this path we tread.
On Tuesday please pause to remember, and pray particularly for our Jewish friends along with other communities devastated by persecution.
Loving God,
in your light may we be united in seeing everyone
as equally precious manifestations of the Divine.
Help us to stand together with those who are suffering
so that love prevails over hate,
and good triumphs over evil.
Amen
