On Sunday we celebrated Candlemas. The presentation of Jesus in the temple. The account of the baby Jesus being presented for the ritual ceremony importantly includes the recognition of who Jesus is:

“He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel…” (Luke 2:32)

This is revealed by the most unlikely of people – People who would have been seen as unimportant and yet exhibit such significant wisdom because of their relationship with God.

The ending to Candlemas service includes the words:

“Here we turn from Christ's birth to his passion. Help us, for whom Lent is near, to enter deeply into the Easter mystery.” And so our attention turns from Christmas to Lent and Easter.

This year our Lent course focuses on Spirituality as we think about how our spirituality can be impacted by and indeed can influence different elements of our life. Why don’t we commit ourselves today (inspired by example of Simeon and Anna) to allow our spirituality to be enhanced so that we too might know wisdom and insight from our deepening relationship with God.
