Advent Sermon Series - Those Who Wait
30 November - 21 December 2025
We start a sermon series this advent on the topic of waiting. It is based on a book by Tanya Marlow entitled “Those who Wait”.
In the introduction to her book she wonders with us what we are waiting for suggesting we might be waiting for a career, a spouse, a child, healing. But she also wonders whether we are waiting:
-
For respect and recognition
-
To feel like we belong
-
For a little more time
-
For justice in lhe world…
Tanya also gives us an insight into herself as she explains “The big wait of my life has been my health.” Tanya has ME and is largely bedbound. I spoke to her a few months ago and whilst she has a sharp theological brain, the ability to articulate, and is a superb teacher, she also knows the cost of waiting.
I guess that the majority of us are waiting for something and my prayer is that during this advent we might encounter again the God who waits with us in our longings and our impatience.
