The Waiting

How good are you at waiting?

As a child I found the wait for any major event interminable. And the daily countdown on the Advent calendar made the anticipation of Christmas practically unbearable.

Now, somewhat older, I wonder where the time goes, and another Christmas is just around the corner.

Advent bids us wait and watch.

Not in the way the leaves us anxious or feeling void of purpose or meaning, but in the way that captivates our attention and motivates our action. This season of preparation compels us to look forward with hope-filled anticipation that in the coming of the Messiah the world celebrates the true gift of love, life and light for all.

God of all who wait and watch,

grant us patience in waiting and purpose in watching.

That this season may fill our hearts with anticipation that all is fulfilled in Christ,

our Lord and Saviour. Amen.
