It's the Holidays!

This week is the start of the school summer holidays: a time of rest for teachers, a change of routine for families and a juggle for working parents.

At 6pm on Sunday we had our first ‘Holiday Evensong’ of the summer. The reading from Mark 6 described the apostles gathering around Jesus after a very busy time and telling him all they had been doing and teaching. They had been coming and going, and they had no time even to eat. I think this is a feeling we can all recognise – being too busy.

Jesus’ response to his followers was: ‘Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.’ (Mark 6: 31) Jesus and the apostles then went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.

Jesus invites all of us to find quiet time and quiet places to be alone with him – for restoration and renewal – ready to return to all we are called to once the holidays are over.

Our prayer this week is two verses from the hymn Dear Lord and Father of Mankind:

O Sabbath rest by Galilee!

O calm of hills above,

where Jesus knelt to share with Thee

the silence of eternity,

interpreted by love!

Drop Thy still dews of quietness,

till all our strivings cease;

take from our souls the strain and stress,

and let our ordered lives confess

the beauty of Thy peace.

John Greenleaf Whittier

Thank you for sharing this detailed information. I had been searching for a reliable way to complete a pin download without running into broken links or confusing instructions. Your explanation made the whole process much easier to understand. Everything worked exactly as described, and I really appreciate the time you took to put this guide together. Looking forward to more helpful posts like this in the future."
