I wonder what your view of hierarchy is?

I spent last week at Windsor castle and worshipped each day in St George’s Chapel – the Chapel that is the burial place for numerous monarchs across the centuries, including Henry VIII and Elizabeth II. This is a country that has largely been built on hierarchy; the monarchy, aristocrats, nobility etc. And yet what of hierarchy in the church of God?

I believe that hierarchy in God’s eyes is flat. We are all on a par - we are all loved children of God. No one is loved more and so is more important. Similarly, no one is loved less and is therefore less important. We are all important; Loved and valued.

Our challenge therefore is twofold. First, we need to accept that importance and value that God places on us. And secondly can we ensure that other people know they too are important and valued?

Maybe we can allow this poem to inspire us:

Worth by Gerard Kelly

Where I crave self-worth

Where I trust

In my net-worth

Where I behave

As a judging jobsworth

Ground me God

In my God-worth.

Free me from

My worthless mini me

To be the worthwhile me

You see.
