It is sometimes really difficult to pray. Our world seems increasingly full of intractable problems. Which is why it is such a relief to join with others in this work to which we are called. Surrounded by our community at St Peter’s and Marlborough Road, we can simply join in, or even rest in the prayerfulness of others. I am particularly grateful for those who lead us in prayer every Sunday and at Morning Prayer during the week. Their distinctive voices and careful words unite us wonderfully.
Our choir, too, is an inspiration. Singing the resonant words of the psalms; enriching our liturgy; all the while encouraging our hopes to take wings.
The natural world all around us is full of help too. There is a bird, I think a robin, that sings outside my bedroom window at dawn and dusk: a sort of conversational burble, full of modest but irrepressible life. Truly it sounds like a prayer and it takes no account of cloudy or snow laden skies.
Can we add our voices to all these, and the hum of praise and hope-filled worship offered all round our world?
Lord our God,
when we find it hard to find words or allow silence,
accept the offering of our hearts,
that with all creation we may worship
through your Son
who is the living pattern of your love,
always and everywhere.
Amen.
