Clearly there’s a technique to navigating exams successfully. It begins with planning, continues with preparation and includes plenty of time for revision. I have to admit that all of this left me cold when faced with school, FE and university exams. I feel I would have enjoyed the process much more if assessments had been practical and coursework based, rather than the tense build up to consolidating years of learning into a nerve-racking 3 hour test.

That said, I am grateful for all the learning opportunities and lessons of life that have shaped me, and continue to do so. I also draw encouragement from the way Jesus taught his followers; demonstrating the will and the ways of God through his actions, and patiently teaching his disciples, and any who listened, about the wonders of God’s Kingdom.

Let’s remember in our prayers those anticipating A Level and BTEC results this week and those anticipating GCSE results on 21 August. In these life-shaping moments may each know the love and care of God as he leads us all into the next steps in life.

Lord, in anxious times

be the anchor that holds us steady.

And in times of celebration

be the joy in our hearts.

And in all that lies ahead

be our companion and guide. Amen.
