Ambassador for God

On Sunday we talked about being an ambassador for God. As we explored that, we thought initially about what an ambassador is: someone who reflects, speaks up for, points to the person/organisation/country they are ambassador for.

And this ties in with the charge made by Bishop Richard to those about to be ordained this weekend. In what is called the “Bishop's Charge” he talked about four things that those who were entering ordained ministry were not called to:

1. Not called to the church, but to the Kingdom

2. Not called to be the centre of attention, but to point to God

3. Not called to do things in their own strength, but in God's strength

4. Not called to security, but to a journey of adventure

This underlines the importance of pointing to God in whatever stage of life or ministry we find ourselves. And we are not alone in this. Henrietta explored with Mark how we can be ambassadors for God when life is difficult. Mark talked about his and Ruth’s first child being born and being told that Annie only had six hours to live. And yet the thing that was able to keep them close to God was other people - other people who were praying for them in that horrible situation.

Let's commit ourselves again, therefore, to be ambassadors for God - people who are able to reflect him, speak for him, and point to him. And as necessary, let's commit ourselves to praying for people when they are in difficult situations, being an ambassador on their behalf. Let’s be people who point to God.
