Fundraising Pull out the stops
Long vision With a little tender care, the new organ should last 100 years or more. Over the next century, St Peter’s hopes the investment will pay off by bringing new music-making opportunities to the city, attracting renowned organists, transforming the interpretation of music played on it and inspiring the composition of new works. The choirs, the cornerstone of St Peter’s musical heritage, can look forward to the sensitive accompaniment of an instrument that will also be in keeping with the elegant surroundings of the church itself. An organ scholarship will also be available for a keen and proficient young organist to train on what will potentially be one of the finest instruments of its type in Europe. The St Peter’s fund raising campaign coincides with the 2005 St Albans International Organ Festival. A biennial event, it holds concerts at both St Albans Cathedral and St Saviour’s church. In coming years, it is hoped that centrally-placed St Peter’s will also host recitals and attract a steady stream of world-renowned organists to try out the stops of this fine new instrument. Click to see how you can become an Organ Donor Whatever your contribution, it will be very welcome. You may choose to donate individually; as a group; a business or even a school. We have suggested donations according to the size of the pipe sponsored. All donations will be recorded in a book of patrons. The names of donors of £5,000 or more will be engraved on a plaque sited next to the organ.
