St Peter’s invites you to journey with us through Holy Week & Easter. There will be quiet moments of contemplation, glorious choral music, readings & poetry by candlelight, activities for children, and finally the lighting of the Easter fire moving into the celebration of Easter day.
Palm Sunday, April 17th
8.00 a.m. Said Eucharist - Book of Common Prayer. A simple, quiet service with short address.
9.30 a.m. Sung Eucharist, (Common Worship) - with blessing of palms and procession. (Crèche and activities for children).
11.15 a.m.Choral Mattins - including distribution of palms. A traditional service with beautiful choral music.
6.30 p.m.Choral Evensong - with sung St Matthew Passion (plainsong).
Monday & Tuesday in Holy Week, April 18th – 19th
8.30 p.m.Meditations for Holy Week - with readings & poetry.
9.00 p.m. Compline by Candlelight - A short, ancient office of night prayer.
Wednesday in Holy Week, April 20th
8.00 p.m.Lent Course - final session.
9.00 p.m..Compline by Candlelight - A short, ancient office of night prayer.
Maundy Thursday, April 21st
8.00 p.m.Sung Eucharist of the Last Supper - with traditional stripping of the altars.
9.00 p.m.Garden Prayer Vigil - The darkened church will remain open for an hour-long silent vigil, as we wait with Christ in a symbolic Garden of Gethsemane. Come for all or just part of the hour.
Good Friday, April 22nd
10.00 a.m. Good Friday Workshop for Children - A two hour workshop exploring the themes of Easter through creative crafts. All welcome. Children under 5 must be accompanied. Octagon Room
12.00 p.m. Meditations at the Cross - Three hours of music, words and silence. Meditations through the first two hours will be led by the Revd Dr Dave Dickinson, Minister of Marlborough Road Methodist Church. Come for all or part of this.
2.00 p.m. A Pilgrimage for Good Friday - The third hour will be a travelling pilgrimage around the church, re-telling the story of the passion through music & symbol, poetry & prayer.
6.30 p.m.Choral Evensong for Good Friday
Holy Saturday, April 23rd
9.00 p.m. The Easter Liturgy for Holy Saturday - including kindling of the Easter fire and lighting of the paschal candle. Service begins with a candlelit vigil, moving to the celebration of Easter Day.
Easter Day, April 24th
8.00 a.m. Said Eucharist - Book of Common Prayer. A simple, quiet service with short address.
9.30 a.m.Sung Eucharist, (Common Worship) - with blessing of the Easter Garden. A family service with activities and Easter eggs for smaller church-goers. (Crèche available).
11.15 a.m.Choral Mattins - A traditional service with beautiful choral music.
6.30 p.m.Festal Evensong - Choral Evensong for Easter day, with procession.
